Westerners are not allowed inside.

One of the main Mandapams.

Freshly decorated and washed every dail.

This area is only for Hindus by birth, so westerners kept outside normally. I had been able to sneak in and walk around in the arcade with the beautiful decorations, where nobody else was wandering around. But when I tried to see the main Meenakshi deity, somebody requested me to leave the area.

Same arcade as before.

Since ancient times, the design of water storage has been important in India's temple architecture, because there could be water shortage during the hot season. Temple tank design became an art form in itself. The tanks are used for ritual cleansing and during rites of consecration.

The intense contemplation of yantras (diagrams with a mystical connotation) can evoke meditative states.

In the museum of the temple interesting examples of the ancient Vedic sciences are given.

The areas of a room or a house are assigned to different deities, who represent different aspects and energies of our lives.

An interesting way to understand the nature of our emotions.
