Chitrakoot – Ancient pilgrimage site in central India
According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Rama (the son of king Dasharata), his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana, where exiled from their kingdom. They lived as simple hermits in the forests of Chitrakoot for twelve years. They had to face many challenges.
Nowadays there are various holy sites with many temples, where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are worshipped, especially at the ghats of the Mandakini River.
