wildlife at playa pelada

One early morning in January 2015 I went birdwatching at Playa Pelada at the pacific coast of Costa Rica. Hundreds of brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) were flying up and down the coastline, occasionally diving into the waves for fresh fish. I was fascinated by their elegant flying style. Their ability to dive like a rocket into the sea and catch their prey is remarkable. Their beaks Besides the pelicans there were others on the lookout for a tasty morning snack: elegant great white egrets, terns, an osprey and a vulture.
